Program Grades Description
College Admissions Workshops 7-12 YSI staff members facilitate two all-day workshops that provide information on college admission, financial aid and career planning for students and parents.  A light meal is provided. Registration is required.
College Tours 6-12 YSI staff members and members of the community chaperone middle and high school students to colleges and universities in the fall and spring of each year. Tour dates vary.
Cultural Activities


K-12 YSI participants attend theatrical productions, visit museums, explore historically important sites and more.  Student participation is in accordance with the age appropriateness of the activity.

Career Speaker Series
8-12 Middle and high school students and their parents attend a speaker series designed to expose students to various career fields and aid career exploration. Registration is required. Refreshments are served.
English as a 2nd Language Supplement 8-12 Middle and high school ESL students benefit from extra assistance and structured practice with speaking, reading and writing English. The program meets every other Tuesday from 5:00p.m. – 6:30p.m.
Math Clinic/

Writing Clinic

9-12 These concentrated 90-min. math and writing clinics are designed to help high school students strengthen their mathematics and writing skills. Four clinics are offered in the fall and spring.
Pre-School Ages 3-5 This ten-month program provides district pre-school children an opportunity to prepare for a successful kindergarten experience. Certified instructors use Creative Curriculum to teach children in a safe and nurturing environment. Students benefit from small class sizes and exciting activities. There is no cost to Trenton families.
Pre-STEM Seminar
(Science Technology Engineering & Math)
5-8 The pre-STEM Seminar exposes local middle school students to the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The meetings are led by college students and career professionals who facilitate math and science lessons with hands-on activities. The seminar meets two hours per week for four weeks.
Reading Adventures with the Deltas 1-5 The sorors of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. encourage local youth to appreciate the power of reading. The program is held the first Saturday of every month from 10:00a.m. -12:00p.m.
Reading Instruction 1-3 The focus of this 6-session course is to help young students improve their reading to become grade level proficient and/or surpass it. Each 2-hour class meets on Saturdays from 10-12:00p.m. in the fall and spring.
SAT/ACT Preparation Course 9-12 Skilled instructors provide math and verbal instruction for the SAT I and the ACT. The course meets after school from 5-8:00p.m. and on some Saturdays from 9:00a.m.-1:00p.m. It is offered several times per year.
Summer Enrichment Program Pre-K-12 The YSI Summer Enrichment Program provides daily academic instruction in language arts, mathematics and science as well as recreational and cultural activities.
Tutoring K-12 Volunteer tutors from local colleges and the local professional community provide instructional sessions each week in all subjects. Tutoring takes place on Tuesday and Thursdays from 5:00p.m. – 6:30p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00a.m.-12:00p.m.
