Executive
Director’s Message
Dear Friend,
As the executive director of Young Scholars’
Institute, I am pleased to announce our Annual Appeal Fundraising
campaign. This campaign is an essential financial source that enhances
our program capabilities and functions. Your contribution will enable
YSI to continue to offer year-round services to Trenton area youth
in need of educational, cultural and recreational enrichment.
Since 1990, YSI has provided
innercity children with an array of academic enrichment programs,
including Princeton Model Congress, tutoring, science exploration
classes and college tours. Our staff, board members and volunteers
are dedicated role models who fully support our initiatives.
One of Young Scholars’
Institute’s most popular and effective offerings is the SAT
preparation course. This six-week program is offered to area high
school students once each semester and is conducted by instructors
from Princeton Review, Inc. Participants are pre-tested,
their scores are reviewed and they are provided instruction in the
math and verbal sections of the exam, including techniques for taking
the test.
Another
core program is the after school program, formerly A.S.E.P. With the
support of a substantial grant from New Jersey After 3, Inc.
YSI has expanded the program from 80 students to 300. The program
content has been enhanced to include art, music, character education
and recreation. Young Scholars’ Institute is one of only three
Trenton-based institutions to receive this funding, which allowed
YSI to reduce the cost to participating families.
In
closing, we ask for your financial support so that we may continue
to provide essential enrichment programs to at-risk youth in the greater
Trenton community. A donation form is included in this newsletter.
We hope that you are able to contribute to our most valuable asset
for the future - our children.
Sincerely,

Jerri L. Morrison
